As for other updates I don't have many I guess, mostly just been trying to get paid work. I'm working on mostly organizing work on the project. Figuring exactly what needs to get done and when and how I can best tackle this. I might be in the market to hire a 3D modeler and rigger for an idea I had. Very simple stuff but it'll be extremely useful in the future. If that's your thing, shoot me a message.

So this still needs a lot of work but I think it's a good start for a guy who hasn't really flexed his animation muscles in a long time. I've spent so much time working in pre-production that I haven't even animated proper linework since I graduated college. Honestly knowing I graduated college with a BFA in animation makes me a bit concerned about the quality of this since it looks choppy in a lot of places. Definitely gonna have to fix up the hair a bit.

So I've got some updates to share on my cartoon. I heard back from the band I hired, they recently started writing the theme song which has me very excited. I've been doing a lot of commissions ever since I finished the storyboards like a month ago, haven't really had time to do any significant work on the cartoon other than just networking with my team. However, I have nearly finished a spreadsheet that will be very important going forward. Its purpose is to log the different assets I have to sketch/design as well as the shots they appear in. I split them into four categories- characters, props, locations, and creatures.

So far I have 64 characters (mostly background designs/alternate outfits), 46 props, and 16 creatures. Locations is probably gonna be the biggest one, but I don't have those completely logged. Recently caught up on commissions and wanted to take a break for a few days.

Although the number of unique shots is a lot smaller, probably less than half that number, it's still fucking cool that it ended on exactly 777 which is a number I use a lot

Either way next up is the design stage, where I design the locations, backgrounds, props, characters, and outfits. This is where the fun begins and I get to start posting things

really reminds me of my days first posting on deviantart, it's really nostalgic i love it. This place really embodies the spirit of that older creator-driven internet that i just barely got to see

It's a shame it took so long to get to this place, definitely would have rather been on this ship than dA

anyways I'm on storyboarding with my pilot, and once that's done I'm getting my voice actor buddies together and we're recording the dialogue. But to get to that point I gotta storyboard the whole thing. I'm working with a script of 50 pages exactly (minus a post credits scene i'm gonna add later).

as you may have guessed each storyboard panel represents one page of script and the ones blacked out marked "done" are in fact, done being storyboarded

i also have to develop some sketches for backgrounds and locations while I wait on my voice actor and musician friends to get work done on their ends

and then there's commissions on top of that that I owe people

maybe once I have some shit developed enough to post and I'm far enough into this for people to take this project seriously i might think about setting up a patreon

I like their new business model, a lot more appealing for someone like me who's bad at keeping up with things like rewards

if this picks up steam i could sell spots in the series like if you wanted to design a character to show up in the background since we're gonna have a lot of creatures and monsters hanging around

some rich people might pay 1000 dollars to have a character of theirs in a cartoon

honestly I should get some of my artist friends to design background characters and creatures for my cartoon, that might be really fun
